Grievance Procedures and Guidelines

3.6   GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES AND GUIDELINES

• If you have an issue that relates to another team member, the matter should be discussed respectfully with that person away from the children
• Team members should work to resolve any issues as soon as they become apparent
• Team members should speak respectfully, and should never get aggressive with another person
• If the matter is not resolved, the Nominated Supervisor should be notified and work with team members to resolve the issue
• If it is felt that an issue has not been satisfactorily resolved or addressed it should then be taken to the Director.  A room or team meeting may need to be organised, and team members will need to openly discuss the issue until it is felt it has been satisfactorily resolved
• If the matter is still not resolved, a plan of action will be set up and implemented, until a satisfactory outcome is reached

Grievance Guidelines:

• Discuss issues away from the children
• Talk with the team member in a calm, respectful manner
• Clearly discuss the grievance you have
• Each member should have opportunity to express themselves
• Use active listening and really listen to what they have to say
• Try to develop a plan of action to improve the situation
• Remember to treat everyone as equals, and how you would like to be treated
• NEVER raise your voice, speak firmly or use inappropriate body language
• Team members should use Centre policies and procedures as a reference when monitoring their own behavior.

Team members are encouraged to reflect upon their own practices and behaviour and how these may affect their contribution to the Centre.  Using individual and team reflective practice tools are encouraged to help educators worth through grievances, issues and concerns.
