Occupational Rehabilitation

3.2   Occupational Rehabilitation

Viewbank Early Childhood Centre is committed to preventing injury and illness through providing a safe and healthy working environment.  Management recognises and accepts its obligation under section 195 of the Accident Compensation Act 1985, to assist in the rehabilitation of employees as a result of their work at Viewbank Early Childhood Centre.

Immediate reporting to the Nominated Supervisor/Team Leader, of all workplace accidents and injuries is critical, so that the necessary First Aid or medical attention can be provided as soon as possible.  Accident forms must be completed, signed and witnessed.  These can be found in the Occupational Health and Safety folders in each team.

This policy entails commitment to ensure that the Occupational Rehabilitation process is commenced as soon as possible after an injury in a manner consistent with medical assessment, to ensure that a return to work as soon as possible by an injured worker is a normal practice and expectation.  The Centre has its own medical practioners to refer team members to and these are to be utilized by team members when injured.  The return to work program will be prepared by the Centre in conjunction with an outside sourced Rehabilitation Co-ordinator when necessary and, in consultation with the injured worker and the treating doctor.  When rehabilitation is recommended, we strongly support co-operation between Viewbank Early Childhood Centre, and the injured worker.

Providing suitable duties where practical, for an injured worker who is unable to carry out their full duties, is an integral part of the rehabilitation process along with consultation with our employees or their representatives to ensure that our Occupational Rehabilitation Program operates effectively.

The Centre is committed to ensuring that participation in a Rehabilitation Program will not, of itself, prejudice injured workers.

Any disputes over Occupational Rehabilitation will be handled as per our normal resolution procedures.

The policy will be reviewed in the light of legislative and corporate changes as they take place.
