Procedures for recording and controlling outbreaks of Immunisable / Notifiable diseases

Immunisations must be up to date upon enrolment and must be kept up to date while attending the centre.  Any child unimmunised will be excluded from the centre during an outbreak of a notifiable disease.

In the event of an outbreak of an immunisable or notifiable disease, all families should be notified by the posting of an information sheet in the Centre’s foyer on the ‘Children’s Health Board’ and by a notice on the Information screen and via an email to all parents of children in the affected room/s.

Any child unimmunised may be excluded from the Centre during an outbreak of a Notifiable Immunisable Disease following advice from the Public Health Unit.  Any child who’s immunisation details have not been updated with the administration team will be treated as “unimmunised” and may also need to be excluded (as per recommendations from the Public Health Unit and the NMHRC ‘Recommended minimum exclusion periods for Infectious Conditions’ table).

Any outbreak of an immunisable or notifiable disease and the action taken is to be recorded on the red ‘Record of Outbreaks of Immunisable / Notifiable Diseases’ sheet, which is kept at the front of the ‘Staying Healthy’ folder in the Administration area.
